Kicking off Fair Trade Month!

Picture 1Every year when October rolls around, the US-based Fair Trade Certified folks at TransFair USA engage licensees, retailers, activist partners, consumers and the media in a month-long campaign to promote awareness and sales of Fair Trade Certified products.

This year’s theme, 31 Days 31 Ways, offers opportunities to make every day a Fair Trade day throughout the month. Each day, visitors to the above site can learn a new fact about Fair Trade and an easy way to support the movement. These small acts can make a huge difference in the lives of small farmers around the developing world, who often struggle to make a living in today’s global economy.

We’re pleased they’re using our Fair Trade Certified soccer balls to “kick off” Fair Trade Month this year!

Another cool thing coming out of the Transfair USA crew is the Fair Trade Town USA movement. All across the United States, towns and communities are coming together around the issue of Fair Trade, respect, and sustainability.

There’s even a Fair Trade Towns toolkit out there if you want to start a steering committee and get your town involved! October is the one time of the year that the Fair Trade Movement really gets into high gear and it’s the best time of the year to make the change in your community. More and more folks every day are getting involved and to have whole communities embrace Fair Trade really speaks volumes about where things are headed.

So what are you doing this Fair Trade Month to make a change? There’s always something special going on here at Fair Trade Sports during October, but we’d like to hear how you’re getting involved and spreading the word. Let us know what you’re doing and who knows, maybe we’ll get to help you spread the word a bit on our blog!
