Super Bowl XLIII is just a few days away and we all get to see the Pittsburgh Steeler and the Arizona Cardinals clash to determine who is the top dog in the League.
The classic Caddy Shack quote “it’s a Cinderella story” by Bill Murray comes to mind when thinking about the Cardinals. Some of us interested in conservation and Fair Trade will be doing our best to spread the message and take advantage of this focused time on sports.
The folks over at Mother Nature Network have posted some great green ideas for an eco-friendly Super Bowl party, including having one of our Fair Trade footballs on hand to toss around. Hey, great idea!
Of course, if you’re going to have a Fair Trade football on hand, why not go ahead and go all out with the eco-friendly theme? MNM has a lot of good tips on their video in addition to our sustainable footballs. They have tips on everything from eco-friendly food and napkins to reminders about recycling.
The eco-friendly theme is one that can have far-reaching effects, especially when applied to a large party of folks. If you have a few nay-sayers in the group, don’t worry, you can always sneak the message in! Everybody will be there to watch the big game, but you can surprise them with some vegan chili and a Fair Trade football! They’ll love the chili and get to feel firsthand the sports can be “greened” when tossing around our version of the pigskin. You can let them know afterwards that they just ate vegan!
The Super Bowl is a great occasion to spread the word about going green and Fair Trade as it comes just once a year and tends to be memorable. Between the new humorous commercials and breathtaking touchdowns, find some time to let the folks at your party know about the principals you believe in. It’s the sort of thing that they’ll be able to take with them after the game and may affect how they make future purchases and decisions.
So enjoy this video…and this Sunday with family and friends!
